In recent years, managing blood sugar levels has become a critical health concern for millions of people worldwide. While prescription weight loss drugs have been a popular method for reducing cravings and lowering blood sugar levels—ultimately leading to weight loss—GLP-1 supplements are emerging as a promising alternative. This article explores the benefits of these supplements and how they compare to traditional weight loss drug injection therapies.

Understanding Blood Sugar Regulation

Before delving into the benefits of supplements, it’s crucial to understand how our bodies naturally regulate blood sugar. The body maintains a delicate balance of glucose in the bloodstream through a complex interplay of hormones, primarily insulin and glucagon. These hormones are commonly referred to as GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1).

How does your body regulate blood sugar?

When we consume food, our blood glucose levels rise. In response, the pancreas releases insulin, which helps cells absorb glucose from the bloodstream. Conversely, when blood sugar levels drop, the pancreas secretes glucagon, which prompts the liver to release stored glucose. This intricate system keeps our blood sugar levels within a healthy range.

What foods regulate your blood sugar?

Certain foods can help regulate blood sugar levels naturally. These include:

Fiber-rich foods like whole grains, legumes, and vegetables

Lean proteins such as fish, poultry, and tofu

Healthy fats found in nuts, seeds, and avocados

Low glycemic index fruits like berries and citrus

One way to incorporate these foods into your daily routine is by trying some of the delicious recipes from JJ Smith’s 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse. A favorite is her low-glycemic, fiber-packed smoothie that uses leafy greens and berries, perfect for keeping blood sugar stable while aiding weight loss.

The Rise of GLP-1 Supplements

GLP-1 supplements have gained popularity as a natural approach to managing glucose levels. These supplements often contain a blend of vitamins, minerals, and herbs that work synergistically to support healthy blood sugar levels. The most effective GLP-1 supplements, like Blood Sugar Focus, contain Eromin Glucose, a nutraceutical made from citrus flavonoids. Eromin Glucose has been shown to improve glucose metabolism and reduce blood glucose levels.

When it comes to one’s weight loss journey I believe commitment is the key. Commit to your health and wellness above all and you will find the results you’re looking for. I have a deep passion for empowering people to take control of their health, starting with blood sugar regulation. I believe that proper blood sugar management impacts nearly every aspect of health, from weight loss to hormone balance, as seen in other popular products like Tummy Focus and Hormone Focus. These products offer a holistic solution, supporting not only blood sugar control but overall well-being.

How Do GLP-1 Supplements Work?

GLP-1 supplements work by enhancing your body’s natural ability to regulate blood sugar. They help increase insulin sensitivity, improve glucose absorption, and support the pancreas in producing adequate insulin levels. JJ Smith’s Blood Sugar Focus goes further by incorporating Eromin Glucose, which is known for reducing blood glucose levels and supporting healthier glucose metabolism. This can lead to better energy levels, fewer cravings, and more stable blood sugar throughout the day.

Key Ingredients of Blood Sugar Focus:

Eromin Glucose: Derived from citrus flavonoids, this key ingredient helps regulate glucose metabolism.

Chromium: Known for enhancing insulin function and stabilizing blood sugar.

Alpha Lipioc Acid: An acid-derived antioxidant helping to support weight loss and lower blood sugar levels.

Cinnamon Extract: Helps lower fasting blood glucose levels and improve the body’s response to insulin.

Benefits of GLP-1 Supplements

Compared to prescription weight loss injections, GLP-1 supplements offer several advantages:

Non-invasive: Supplements are taken orally, avoiding the need for painful injections.

Convenient: Daily supplements are easier to incorporate into your routine than weekly or monthly injections.

Fewer side effects: Many people experience fewer side effects from supplements compared to injectable medications.

Holistic: Supplements often provide additional nutrients that support overall health beyond just weight loss.

Cost-effective: GLP-1 supplements, like Blood Sugar Focus, are significantly more affordable than prescription injections, which can cost over $1,000 without insurance.

How Lowering Blood Sugar Levels Improves Health

Maintaining healthy blood sugar levels is crucial for overall well-being and weight loss. By lowering GLP-1 levels, individuals can experience numerous health benefits:

Reduced risk of type 2 diabetes complications

Improved cardiovascular health

Enhanced energy levels and mood stability

Reduced cravings for sweets and carbs

Better weight management

Improved cognitive function

Alternative Solution to Popular Injections

While prescription weight loss injectables like Ozempic® and Wegovy® have exploded in popularity as solutions for type 2 diabetes and weight loss, GLP-1 supplements offer a compelling alternative. These supplements work by supporting the body’s natural ability to regulate glucose levels, often by enhancing insulin sensitivity or reducing glucose absorption. In many cases, GLP-1 supplements like Blood Sugar Focus provide similar results without the need for costly and invasive injections.

How Lowering Blood Sugar Levels Enhances Health

By controlling blood sugar levels, individuals can significantly reduce the risk of complications related to type 2 diabetes, improve cardiovascular health, and effectively manage their weight. In addition to these benefits, supporting pancreatic health is essential for ensuring the production of insulin, which keeps blood glucose levels within a healthy range.

Closing Thoughts

As we’ve explored, GLP-1 supplements like Blood Sugar Focus offer numerous benefits over popular weekly injections. They provide a non-invasive, convenient, and holistic approach to managing blood glucose levels. By supporting the body’s natural regulatory mechanisms and providing essential nutrients, these supplements can be an effective tool for both weight loss and overall health.

Remember, the key to blood sugar management lies in a comprehensive approach that includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, and appropriate supplementation. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions or are taking medications.

By understanding how our bodies regulate blood sugar and leveraging the power of natural supplements, we can take proactive steps toward better health and well-being. Whether you’re looking to support your pancreas, improve insulin sensitivity, or simply maintain healthy blood sugar levels, the right supplement could be a game-changer in your health journey.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

In my late 30s, I began experiencing rapid weight gain, mood swings, brain fog, and fatigue, despite maintaining the same diet and daily routine. Determined to address these symptoms and feel vibrant, young, and sexy again, I embarked on a journey of extensive research, numerous visits to naturopathic doctors, and a lot of trial and error.

Through this journey, I discovered a regimen that balanced my hormones, a regimen that has worked for millions of other women struggling with symptoms caused by hormonal imbalances. It’s called Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) involves the use of hormones that are chemically identical to the ones your body naturally produces. These hormones are derived from plant sources, such as yams and soy, and are processed to have the same molecular structure as human hormones. Bioidentical hormone therapy became the anchor that helped me achieve complete hormonal balance. Now, in my 50s, I feel like I’ve truly turned back the hands of time.

Why are Natural Bioidentical Hormones Better Than Synthetic Hormones?

To find complete relief from hormonal decline, many women, including myself, use bioidentical hormones such as EstroGlow and ProGestGlow. These products have been extremely safe and effective for me and thousands of other women. It’s important to use natural hormones (bioidentical hormones), not synthetic hormones, to avoid side effects.

Bioidentical hormones are considered superior to synthetic hormones for several key reasons, all related to their chemical structure, absorption, and the body’s response to them*.

Chemical Structure: Bioidentical hormones have the same molecular structure as the hormones naturally produced by the human body. This structural similarity means that the body recognizes and metabolizes them in the same way it does its own hormones. Synthetic hormones, on the other hand, have a different chemical structure, which can lead to variations in how the body processes and responds to them.

Absorption and Efficacy: Because bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to human hormones, they are more easily absorbed and utilized by the body. This often results in better efficacy and symptom relief for those experiencing hormonal imbalances. Synthetic hormones may not be absorbed as effectively, which can lead to less predictable outcomes and sometimes less effective symptom management.

Side Effects: Bioidentical hormones are typically associated with fewer side effects compared to synthetic hormones. This is because the body can more easily metabolize bioidentical hormones without producing unwanted byproducts that can cause adverse reactions. Synthetic hormones, due to their different chemical structure, can create metabolites that might lead to side effects such as bloating, mood swings, and increased risk of certain health conditions.

Natural Source: Bioidentical hormones are derived from natural plant sources, such as yams and soy. These plant-based hormones are then processed to be chemically identical to the hormones your body produces. This natural derivation aligns more closely with holistic health approaches and is often preferred by individuals seeking a more natural way to address hormonal imbalances. Synthetic hormones, conversely, are created in laboratories and may include artificial components.

Which Bioidentical Hormones Do You Need?

Between the ages of 35 and 60+, both progesterone and estrogen levels naturally begin to decline. Starting around age 35, these hormone levels fluctuate, and in your 40s and 50s, they decline more sharply, often resulting in little to no estrogen by post-menopause. To achieve complete relief from the symptoms of hormonal decline, replacing the hormones your body no longer produces with natural bioidentical hormones can be incredibly effective. Adding natural bioidentical hormone creams like ProGestGlow and EstroGlow can help you feel like yourself again.

Understanding which bioidentical hormones are right for you involves considering your age and specific symptoms.

In Your 40s and 50s: During this period, increasing your progesterone levels can combat hormonal imbalances like estrogen dominance or perimenopause. These imbalances can wreak havoc on your health, leading to mood swings, insomnia, headaches, and unwanted weight changes. For relief, I recommend the Hormone Focus Bundle, which includes natural progesterone in the form of ProGestGlow along with Hormone Focus. Hormone Focus is an all-natural dietary supplement that combines DIM and Calcium D-Glucarate to help bring your body back into balance. It’s my go-to solution to alleviate the irritating symptoms associated with estrogen dominance and perimenopause.

In Your Late 50s and Beyond: As you move into your late 50s and beyond, your body starts to produce little to no estrogen, leading to menopause and post-menopause. This stage often brings symptoms like brain fog, hot flashes, fatigue, bloating, and stubborn weight gain. For these symptoms, I recommend the Menopause Support Bundle, which includes EstroGlow along with ProGestGlow and Hormone Focus. EstroGlow is an estrogen cream specifically formulated to provide relief from the discomforts of hormonal imbalances associated with menopause and post-menopause.

Conclusion

In summary, bioidentical hormones offer a more natural and effective approach to hormone replacement therapy compared to synthetic hormones. Their identical chemical structure to human hormones, better absorption, fewer side effects, and natural sourcing make them a preferable choice for many individuals seeking relief from hormonal imbalances. By using bioidentical hormones tailored to your stage in life, you can effectively manage hormonal imbalances and reclaim your health and well-being.

However, it’s important to note that Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) may not be suitable for everyone. Women with heart disease, a history of heart attack or stroke, certain cancers such as breast and uterine cancer, liver disease, or a history of blood clots should avoid natural bioidentical hormones. Always consult with your doctor before starting any new diet, supplement, or hormone regimen to ensure it’s the right choice for your individual health needs.

Embrace your new journey towards hormonal balance happiness! With the right support and natural bioidentical hormones, you can feel like your vibrant, youthful self again.

Welcome to your journey towards better health and vitality. Embarking on a detox journey is more than just a passing health trend; it’s a transformative experience that can significantly boost your wellbeing. Central to this journey is the cleansing of one of the most important and often overlooked organs in our body – the liver.

The liver is a powerhouse organ with diverse functions, including detoxification, metabolism regulation, and production of vital biochemicals necessary for digestion. However, our modern lifestyle, replete with processed foods, sedentary habits, and environmental toxins, can overburden this vital organ. This is where liver cleansing, or detoxification, comes into play.

In this blog, I will provide a comprehensive guide that will delve into the importance of liver cleansing, demystify the process, and provide practical, step-by-step instructions to help you detox your liver efficiently and effectively. The goal is not just weight loss or temporary health boosts, but a genuine, long-lasting rejuvenation of your liver health.

Whether you’ve been on your health journey for a while now and looking for advanced strategies or just starting your wellness journey and seeking guidance, this guide is designed to offer valuable insights and empowering knowledge to enhance your health. It’s time to prioritize your liver health, unearth the potential benefits of detoxification, and embark on a journey towards enhanced health and wellbeing.

What happens to your body when you do a liver detox?

When you embark on a liver detox, your body initiates a process to eliminate the built-up toxins that have been overworking your liver. This detoxification process can lead to a range of bodily reactions, some of which might be temporarily uncomfortable.

At the beginning, you might notice some detox symptoms. These are usually short-term reactions that might feel a bit uncomfortable due to your body quickly getting rid of toxins. You might feel a bit tired, have headaches, or notice some skin irritations. Some of us might also feel a bit nauseous or have flu-like symptoms.

Just remember, these detox symptoms show that your body is doing a great job at flushing out the toxins that have been stored in your liver and other tissues. While it’s not always the most comfortable experience, it’s a crucial step in the detox process. Hang in there!

As the detox progresses and your body starts to adjust, you will begin to notice positive changes. You may experience increased energy levels as your body’s metabolic processes become more efficient. You may also notice improvements in your skin, which can become clearer and more radiant as your body eliminates toxins that can contribute to dullness and blemishes.

Your digestion might also improve. The liver plays a crucial role in digestion by producing bile, a substance that helps break down fats and absorb nutrients. By detoxifying your liver, you’re helping it function more efficiently, which can lead to improved digestion.

A liver detox strengthens the immune system by lessening the liver’s burden, allowing better resource allocation for immunity. Despite initial discomfort from detox symptoms, the benefits include increased energy, improved skin and digestion, and a robust immune system, contributing to enhanced health and well-being.

How long does it take to complete a liver detox?

Generally, a typical liver detox program can last anywhere from a week to a month. However, the duration of a liver detox can differ significantly between individuals due to several factors. These can include the person’s overall health, lifestyle, and the specific detox program they choose to follow.

It’s important to note that while the timeline of a liver detox may vary, the overall process of improving your liver health is ongoing. Making permanent changes to your diet and lifestyle, such as reducing alcohol intake, eating a balanced, nutrient-rich diet, exercising regularly, and taking an all-natural liver cleanse supplement like Liver Focus can help maintain the health of your liver in the long term.

Furthermore, even after the detox program ends, your body will continue to process and eliminate any remaining toxins. This means that you might continue to see improvements in your health and vitality even after you’ve completed the detox program.

So while a liver detox might have a defined timeline, the journey towards improved liver health is a continuous process that requires sustained effort and commitment. Embarking on a journey to improve your health and wellness alone can be very difficult. Even something seemingly straightforward as a liver detox requires dedication and support. That’s why I encourage everyone to download my app, Level UP with JJ Smith where you’ll find thousands of other health conscious individuals committed to improving their health. It plays a pivotal role in any detox program and is particularly significant in our journey towards better health and vitality.

The liver serves as your body’s natural detoxifier. It is tasked with an array of essential functions. It detoxifies our body, regulates our metabolism, and produces biochemicals necessary for digestion. However, our modern lifestyle, characterized by processed foods and environmental toxins can overwork and burden this vital organ.

This is where Liver Focus comes into play. The supplement, made up of proprietary natural ingredients, targets the liver, aiding in the elimination of toxins and waste products that have accumulated over time. By focusing on improving liver health, we are able to enhance the organ’s efficiency and capacity to perform its functions, leading to accelerated fat loss, improved metabolism and better digestion.

But the benefits of Liver Focus don’t stop there. As the liver’s performance improves, we can experience a boost in our overall health and vitality. A healthier liver can contribute to increased energy levels, clearer skin, and a stronger immune system. Moreover, the liver’s improved functionality can also contribute to better nutrient absorption, further supporting our overall health.

In summary, Liver Focus is not just about detoxification. It’s a comprehensive approach that targets the root of many health issues by enhancing liver health, which in turn accelerates fat loss, particularly stubborn fat, improves metabolism, digestion, and overall vitality. It’s an integral part of the detox journey, paving the way for a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle.

A Simple Guide to Understanding and Balancing Hormones

Hormones are often referred to as the body’s messengers. They play a critical role in the body’s functionality, helping to regulate almost every major bodily function. These range from simple needs, such as hunger and thirst, to more complex systems like reproduction and growth. Hormone balance refers to the ideal proportions of different body aspects, such as estrogen, progesterone, thyroid, and cortisol.

In addition, hormones have a significant influence on our emotions, mood and weight loss. They help control our mental state and feelings, and any imbalance in hormone levels can have a profound effect on our psychological health. For instance, an imbalance in serotonin levels can lead to mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. Another example, unhealthy estrogen levels can lead to sluggish weight loss in many stubborn fat areas like the thighs, belly and arms.

Disruptions to hormonal balance are not to be taken lightly. They can have wide-ranging effects on our health, affecting both our physical condition and mental well-being. Hormonal imbalance can result in a variety of symptoms, from weight gain and hair loss to mood swings and memory lapses.

This is why understanding your hormones and ensuring they are in balance is of utmost importance. By having a comprehensive understanding of your hormones and their functions, you can better manage your health and well-being, and take steps to address any imbalances that may arise.

The Impact of Hormonal Imbalance on Daily Life and Well-being

As mentioned above hormonal imbalances may manifest in physical signs such as weight gain, irregular periods, and hair loss. Emotional and cognitive symptoms may include mood swings and memory lapses. If these signs persist, it is advisable to seek medical advice. In addition to the physical and emotional symptoms, hormonal imbalances can also create a range of other issues that may not be as obvious, but can significantly disrupt daily life and overall well-being.

One such impact is on sleep. Hormonal imbalances can lead to sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or excessive sleepiness. This can create a vicious cycle, as lack of quality sleep can further exacerbate hormonal imbalances. It’s not uncommon for individuals with a hormonal imbalance to experience fatigue, which can make it even more difficult to manage daily tasks and responsibilities.

Changes in appetite are another common symptom of hormonal imbalance as well. This can take the form of increased hunger or loss of appetite. In either case, these changes can lead to unhealthy eating habits and exacerbated weight gain, which can further contribute to hormonal imbalance and other health problems. These symptoms, together with the physical and emotional changes, can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. Daily routines and tasks can become increasingly challenging, and maintaining social relationships can also become difficult.

In fact, the cumulative effect of these symptoms can contribute to a gradual decline in overall well-being. This is why it’s so important to recognize the signs of hormonal imbalance early on and seek appropriate medical advice. By addressing and managing hormonal imbalances, you can help to mitigate these impacts and improve both your physical health and mental well-being.

If you experience persistent symptoms of hormonal imbalance, it’s crucial to consult with a healthcare provider. They can diagnose any underlying conditions and provide appropriate treatment options. Additionally, I suggest taking a dietary supplement like Hormone Focus which helps to naturally support hormone balance and overall health.

Culprits Behind Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal imbalances can be caused by lifestyle factors and stress, certain medical conditions like PCOS, thyroid disorders, menopause/perimenopause, and estrogen dominance. Poor nutritional choices, such as a high sugar diet, can lead to insulin resistance, which in turn can disrupt other hormones. Lack of physical activity, chronic stress, and inadequate sleep can also negatively affect hormonal balance. Additionally, certain medications and environmental toxins can interfere with hormone production and function.

Exposure to certain chemicals known as endocrine disruptors, which can be found in everyday items like personal care products and plastic containers, can also disrupt hormonal balance. It’s important to be aware of these factors and make choices that support hormonal health.

How to Fix Hormonal Imbalance

Balancing hormones involves dietary changes like incorporating healthy fats and reducing sugar intake, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and stress management techniques. Medical interventions should also be considered when necessary.

In the pursuit of hormonal balance, it’s important to be patient and persistent. Achieving optimal hormonal health is a journey, not a destination, and it requires consistent effort and attention. A balanced, nutritious diet, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and stress management techniques are all crucial components in this journey.

Here are few ways to solve hormonal imbalance:

Maintain a Healthy Diet: A balanced diet is critical for hormonal balance. This should include a variety of fruits and vegetables which provide essential vitamins and minerals. Lean proteins, such as chicken, fish, or tofu, can help with hormone production. Healthy fats, like those found in avocados, nuts, and olive oil, are important for maintaining cell structure and hormone production. Whole grains, like brown rice and oatmeal, provide fiber and help control blood sugar levels, which can help keep your hormones in check. On the other hand, you should avoid processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats as they can disrupt hormonal balance.

Regular Exercise: Physical activity plays a vital role in balancing hormones. Regular exercise can help regulate insulin, maintain a healthy weight, and reduce stress, all of which can help balance hormones. It doesn’t have to be intense or long; even activities such as walking, cycling, swimming, or weight lifting done consistently can make a significant difference.

Adequate Sleep: Sleep is when your body goes to work repairing cells and producing hormones. Therefore, getting a good night’s sleep—around 7-8 hours per night—is crucial for hormone production and balance. Lack of sleep or poor-quality sleep can disrupt the body’s hormonal balance, leading to a range of health issues.

Stress Management: Chronic stress can wreak havoc on your hormone balance. High stress levels can lead to hormonal imbalances, including changes in cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine. Techniques such as meditation, yoga, deep breathing exercises, and even simple activities like reading a book or taking a bath can help manage stress levels and keep your hormones in balance.

Try All Natural Supplements: Taking an all natural dietary supplement like Hormone Focus helps to naturally support hormone balance. I encourage you to give it a try especially if you’ve suffered from hormonal imbalances such as PMS, PCOS, estrogen dominance and Menopause/Peri-Menopause. In addition to poor health factors like overwhelming stress, hormonal imbalance can also lead to weight gain. When your hormones are out of whack, some people experience a build up in stubborn fat around the waist, thighs and arms. Hormone Focus is proven to solve sluggish weight gain caused by stubborn fat.

What Foods Help to Balance Hormones

Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables: These vegetables contain a substance called indole-3-carbinol, which helps to balance estrogen levels.

Fatty Fish: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for hormone health.

Quinoa: This grain is a complete protein and is a rich source of magnesium, which helps balance insulin levels.

Nuts: Almonds, cashews, and walnuts are rich in good fats and fiber which can help balance your hormones.

Avocados: They are packed with healthy fats that are essential for hormone synthesis.

Flaxseeds: These seeds are high in lignans and fiber which can help balance estrogen levels.

Leafy green vegetables: They are a rich source of folic acid and magnesium which are essential for hormone balance.

Can Hormones be Balanced Naturally or with Supplements

Yes, an all natural supplement like Hormone Focus helps support healthy hormone levels, promote weight loss by addressing hormonal imbalances and aids in menstrual cycle regulation. A supplement like Hormone Focus is best used as part of a holistic approach to hormonal health.

It’s important to note that while supplements like Hormone Focus can support hormone health, their effectiveness can vary significantly among individuals. Factors such as age, gender, overall health status, and individual hormonal needs can all influence how effective these supplements may be. It’s important to consult your healthcare provider when taking any supplements to ensure it is right for you.

Conclusion: Taking Charge of Your Hormonal Health

It’s crucial to take charge of your hormonal health. By understanding the key takeaways from this article—such as the importance of balanced hormones, the signs of imbalance, the causes, how to achieve balance, and the science behind hormones—you can proactively manage your health.

How Detoxing Your Liver Can Improve Liver Health

Are you ready to explore the world of liver health and how detoxifying your liver can lead to a remarkable transformation of your overall well-being? If so, you’ve come to the right place!

Just by clicking on this blog and making it this far, it proves you have some sense of how important a liver cleanse is to your overall health. The liver is one of the most vital organs in the body, responsible for numerous essential functions, including detoxification, metabolism, and nutrient storage. Think of your liver as your body’s MVP – it’s responsible for filtering out toxins, keeping your blood clean, and ensuring everything is running like a well-oiled machine. However, with our modern lifestyles often filled with processed foods, environmental pollutants, and unhealthy habits, our liver can become overburdened, leading to potential health issues. This is where the power of a liver detox comes into play. To effectively detox and cleanse your liver, this comprehensive blog will provide you with the incredible benefits of liver detoxing, debunk common myths about liver health and show you how to start your own liver detox journey.

The Marvels of Liver Detoxing

Picture this: a liver detox is like hitting the reset button on your body’s internal system. By giving your liver a chance to cleanse and rejuvenate, you’re essentially giving it the superpower to function at its prime. Here’s how a liver detox can lead to amazing improvements in your health:

Cleansing and purification
Your liver is the ultimate detoxifier. It sifts through your blood, pulling out harmful substances and ensuring they’re excreted properly. But when it’s overwhelmed, toxins can build up, affecting everything from your energy levels to your skin’s glow. A detox helps your liver flush out those accumulated toxins, leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Say goodbye to stubborn belly fat
Guess what? Your liver plays a crucial role in fat metabolism. An overloaded liver can have trouble breaking down fats, leading to pesky belly fat that just won’t budge. A detox gives your liver the boost it needs to efficiently burn those fats, helping you say farewell to belly bulge.

Hormone harmony
Balanced hormones are the key to feeling your best. Your liver helps regulate hormones, and when it’s in top shape, you’ll experience fewer mood swings, less fatigue, and improved overall well-being. Detoxing your liver can bring your hormones back into harmony, allowing you to conquer each day with a smile.

Boosted immunity
A healthy liver means a strong immune system. When your liver is functioning optimally, it produces proteins that help fight off infections and keep you feeling your best. By detoxing your liver, you’re essentially giving your immune system a superhero upgrade.

Energize your life
Ever feel sluggish even after a good night’s sleep? An overloaded liver can zap your energy levels. Detoxing your liver can restore your vitality, giving you the energy you need to take on life’s adventures head-on.

Radiant skin and glowing eyes
Clear skin and bright eyes are telltale signs of a healthy liver. A detox can clear up skin issues and reduce the appearance of fatigue in your eyes, leaving you looking and feeling radiant.

Taming the sugar monster
If sugar cravings are your nemesis, blame it on imbalanced blood sugar levels. A detox can help your liver regulate blood sugar, curbing those cravings and providing a smoother ride through your day.

Debunking Liver Detox Myths

Let’s dive into a topic that’s often surrounded by confusion and misconceptions – liver detox. With the plethora of products and programs claiming to detoxify your liver and boost your well-being, it’s important to separate fact from fiction. While the concept of supporting your liver’s health is absolutely valid, it’s essential to approach it with a discerning eye. I’m here to shed light on the myths while acknowledging the genuine importance of maintaining a healthy liver. As you embark on this journey, remember it’s important to follow the science and trust in natural remedies. That’s why, in addition to lifestyle adjustments, I’ve created Liver Focus, a carefully crafted supplement designed to naturally enhance your liver’s detoxification abilities. So, let’s navigate this realm of information together, embracing both the power of natural practices and the support of trusted supplements for a well-rounded approach to liver health.

When it comes to enhancing your liver health, a holistic approach that combines the power of natural practices and the support of trusted supplements can create a dynamic synergy. Natural practices, like consuming a nutrient-rich diet, staying hydrated, engaging in regular physical activity, and managing stress, are the foundational pillars that lay the groundwork for a healthy liver. These practices not only aid in detoxification but also contribute to your overall well-being. However, I understand life’s demands can sometimes challenge our ability to consistently adhere to these practices. This is where a supplement like Liver Focus can play a complementary role, providing your liver with targeted support to cope with the modern world’s environmental stressors and potentially aiding in its detoxification processes. It’s all about striking a balance between what nature offers and what science can amplify, ensuring that your liver receives the care it deserves.

How to Start Your Liver Detox Journey

Now that you have a clearer picture of the powers of liver detoxing and better able discern fact from fiction, I think you’re ready to embark on your liver detox journey. To that end, here’s a simple roadmap:

Stay Hydrated: Aim for a gallon of lukewarm water daily. Add a squeeze of lemon for an extra detoxifying kick.

Eat Colorfully: Opt for a diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, and liver-loving superfoods like berries, nuts, and turmeric.

Exercise: Get moving to stimulate blood circulation and sweat out those toxins. Aim for at least five days of moderate exercise each week.

Prioritize Sleep: Give your body the rest it needs to heal during the detox process. Extra sleep and fresh air can work wonders.

Limit Alcohol and Sugar: Ease the load on your liver by cutting back on alcohol and sugary treats. Your liver will thank you.

Consider a Natural Supplement: Try a proven liver supplement like Liver Focus to support your detox journey.

Remember, a liver detox is like pressing the reset button on your health. It’s a journey toward feeling your best, inside and out.

Why is sugar so addicting?

Does it seem like no matter what you do, your cravings for sweets just won’t go away? If you struggle with sweets like I do and so many others, it is likely due to the fact that your brain has developed a sugar habit that is very difficult to break. Constantly craving sweets starts off as just a habit but can quickly escalate to an addiction. Although it may seem unusual to think about, sugar addiction is a real thing and it can have a negative impact on your health much like addictions to other substances like alcohol or drugs. Dopamine, the chemical that causes “feel good” emotions, is released into the body when sugar-containing foods are consumed. Every time you eat a sweet sugary snack or drink your favorite sugary beverage, sugar appeals to your brain and makes you feel happy, better known as dopamine. The psychological effect of sugar is that it causes the release of this dopamine and can stimulate the creation of serotonin, a hormone that can improve your mood. It’s a combination of a chemical reaction and nostalgia.

The fact that your brain constantly and subconsciously craves sugar is the secret that food makers work so hard to keep from you. The body starts to develop a tolerance when certain foods are consumed frequently or in excess. Once your brain develops a dependency on sugar, greater amounts of sugar needs to be consumed to have the same benefits. The use of drugs and alcohol follows a similar pattern, developing gradually into dependence and addiction. Similar to these chemicals, sugar makes the brain crave more leading to potential physical and psychological effects as well as long-term health risks.

Risks of sugar addiction?

Some risks of sugar addiction may include:

Weight Gain/Obesity

Diabetes

Cardiovascular disease

A sugar addiction can turn into a vicious cycle. When you first consume sugar, it tastes delicious and gives you a “high” because your brain releases dopamine. Your insulin levels rise as a result of the sugar, which lowers your blood sugar levels. Your appetite and hunger rise as your blood sugar levels drop. Once again, your body will seek sugar to satisfy any hunger cravings or uneasy feelings, even if they are only temporary. Sugar is very addictive. Up to 75% of the processed foods you consume include a sweetener, and even consuming so-called “healthy” amounts of it can result in health issues. When you consume sugar, both the inside and outside of your body experience unhealthy degeneration. Every year it seems we learn more and more about how extremely dangerous and lethal even modest doses of artificial sugar can be.

Do you have an addiction to sugar? Here are 5 warning signs to watch out for. If any of these describe your behavior, you may have a sugar addiction:

You experience sugar withdrawal

You hide or deny your sugar habit

You use sugar as a means of motivating yourself or as a reward

You crave sweet and salty foods even when you’re not hungry

You go out of your way to get sugar

Drop the sugar habit

Eight out of ten Americans are attempting to reduce their sugar intake, according to the American Heart Association. On average, adults take in about 77 grams of sugar daily. Over the course of a year, that comes up to nearly 60 pounds of sugar. That’s like carrying around 12 sacks of sugar. Imagine putting that into your body!

The Mayo Clinic advises giving your body a two-week break from sweets if you’re committed to stopping your sugar addiction. Try to limit yourself to foods with little to no added sugars or sweeteners; aim for less than 5 grams of added sugar per serving. But remember, this doesn’t have to be an entire detox.

Begin by avoiding sugary beverages. They are the sole problem, being responsible for roughly half of the added sugars consumed in America. Up to 10 teaspoons of sugar can be found in a 12-ounce can of soda. In just five or six gulps of your favorite soda, you can consume more sugar than you should each day.

Look for words that finish in “ose” as a general rule, such as sucrose, fructose, glucose, maltose, lactose, or dextrose. This indication makes it easier to identify additional sugars. Also, don’t be fooled by ingredients that seem healthier for you.

Making healthier choices

Start by including more whole foods in your diet, such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. Natural sugars are still present in many fruits and vegetables, but the starch and fiber in these foods slow the digestive process and make you feel fuller. Read WebMD’s blog post on healthy carbs to find out more.

If you need an after-dinner snack that can fulfill your sugar cravings without making you feel like you’ve cheated, choose fruits like blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries as berries are typically a low-sugar option.

While giving up those sugar-filled beverages is difficult, try replacing them with water or flavored sparkling water. Without the additional sugar or calories from soda, the carbonation will imitate the fizz from your favorite drink.

Be cautious of hidden sugars that are frequently added to low-fat goods while choosing foods at the grocery store. Fat tends to give things flavor, therefore cutting it out of products might make them tasteless. To make their products more palatable, food producers add sugar back into their products. Any health benefits you may believe a product with less fat offers you may be offset by its high sugar or additive content. It’s vital to keep in mind that breaking poor sugar habits doesn’t require an abstinence from sugary foods or drinks. Take charge instead by adding a little sugar. For instance, as a reward for yourself, add a little honey to your yogurt; which is the better alternative for pre-packaged flavored yogurts with additional sugar.

Tips to break from your sugar addiction

Add your own sweetener

For example, start with an unsweet iced tea, then add your own sweetener:

Splenda

Truvia

Stevia in the raw

Watch for artificial sugars

Look for words that finish in “ose” as a general rule, such as sucrose, fructose, glucose, maltose, lactose, or dextrose.

Avoid sweetened drinks

Soda, sweetened teas, sugary sports drinks

Sugar is full of empty calories and has little to no nutritional value. These calories have the potential to make you gain weight, which raises your risk of heart disease and stroke.

In actuality, sugar isn’t much different from a delicious fast food meal or a comfort food item. Because of their high glycemic index, these carbs convert quickly to glucose. You may feel wonderful throughout this quicker digestive process, but hunger will quickly set in since sugary foods lack nutrition and leave you feeling unsatisfied.

Get in touch with your primary care physician to find out more about how to implement changes before you make any dietary adjustments or think about eliminating sugar from your daily routine. If you have additional questions, post them on the JJ Smith Facebook Community page.

Are There Foods for Diabetics to Help Lower Blood Sugar Levels?

If you have diabetes, you are aware of how difficult it can be to maintain a healthy balance between your diet and blood sugar levels. Diabetics understand there are certain foods that produce significant spikes in blood sugar while others actually lower it. Many people go through trial and error with their diet for years before they find what works for them. Fortunately for you, I’ve done the research on what foods you should be eating if you have diabetes.

In this blog, I’ll share with you my top 10 foods diabetics should be eating to lower blood sugar levels and lower the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Foods high in fiber, potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, and calcium are the healthiest choices for someone with diabetes. These nutrients aid in the regulation of blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol.

Knowing the right foods to eat to lower blood sugar levels is the start but you should also consider incorporating a dietary supplement like my Blood Sugar Focus that helps maintain your health, weight and energy naturally. Blood Sugar Focus combined with a healthy eating plan can help lower the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and ultimately help you reverse diabetes. The keys to a healthy eating plan to help reverse diabetes and lower blood sugar levels include:

Portion control is essential.

Select nutritious foods to maintain a healthy weight and heart.

Routinely consume meals and snacks by meal prepping.

Take Blood Sugar Focus daily.

List of Top 10 Foods

If you have diabetes, you can still eat the foods you love as long as you monitor your blood glucose levels to stay safe. By including these ten items in your regular diet, you can provide your body with the nutrition it needs so you can occasionally indulge.

Avocados
Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), which have been demonstrated to increase “good” HDL cholesterol, make up the majority of the fats in avocados. Additionally, MUFAs help lower blood pressure, “bad” LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. People may feel fuller for longer thanks to avocados, which can reduce their overall calorie intake.

Beans
Beans are a “superfood” that contains high-quality carbohydrates, low-fat protein, and soluble fiber, as well as magnesium and potassium. Beans help to stabilize blood sugar levels and suppress hunger, as well as improve blood sugar control and lower blood pressure. Beans are cheap and extremely versatile. Add different types of beans to veggie-packed salads and soups, such as black, pinto, garbanzo, or cannellini. Although beans contain carbohydrates, 1/2 cup contains the same amount of protein as an ounce of meat without the saturated fat. You can use canned beans to save time, but be sure to drain and rinse them first to get rid of as much salt as you can.

Berries (Strawberries, Blueberries)
Consider having a cup of strawberries as a snack if you’re craving something sweet. Berries are a rich source of phytochemicals, which are organic compounds that help shield cells from harm. Berries make us feel full because they are low in calories, high in fiber, and contain a lot of water. They are a wise decision to aid with weight management. Due to their high antioxidant content, strawberries have been demonstrated to lower post-meal insulin and cholesterol levels.
With good reason, blueberries are considered a “superfood.” The antioxidant and fiber content of blueberries’ carbs results in a lower glycemic reaction than that of many other fruits. Consuming berries on a regular basis could help with insulin resistance, whether it be blueberries, strawberries, or other berries. This may lower the chance of developing diabetes in people with pre-diabetes or a family history of the disease, and it may also help people with diabetes manage their insulin resistance.

Greek Yogurt
To stay healthy and help manage diabetes, it’s important to keep a variety of beneficial bacteria in the GI tract. Yogurt has a lot of advantages. It is abundant in calcium, protein, potassium, magnesium, and vitamin D, among other nutrients. Magnesium and protein are two essential nutrients for managing diabetes. Magnesium improves insulin sensitivity while protein gives you a feeling of fullness, which may help control your blood sugar levels. Consuming yogurt with live bacteria cultures is among the greatest ways to obtain probiotics. Skip the flavored or fruited yogurt, and choose greek yogurt for higher levels of protein, and avoid added sugars.

Leafy Greens (Spinach, broccoli)
Non-starchy vegetables are a great way to fill up on food without packing on the calories or carbs. For people with diabetes, leafy greens are among the greatest low-carb vegetables to include. The vitamins C and K, calcium, iron, and potassium are particularly abundant in leafy greens including leaf lettuce, spinach, kale, and arugula. They also include fiber and antioxidants. One of the best sources of magnesium is spinach, which your body uses to more effectively absorb blood sugars and lower blood sugar levels. Along with other essential elements, this leafy green is also rich in vitamin K and folate. This suggests that regardless of how much you consume, your blood sugar level won’t increase significantly.

Nuts (Almonds, Walnuts)
In need of a fast snack? Pick up a handful of nuts, like almonds or walnuts. The little amount of carbohydrates in nuts is slowly absorbed by the body due to the presence of fiber, protein, and fat, preventing blood sugar spikes. Healthy unsaturated fats, fiber, and magnesium—which is known to aid in carbohydrate metabolism—are all present in nuts.
Nuts won’t cause your blood sugar levels to rise because they are abundant in fiber and most of them contain few digestible carbohydrates. Almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, and walnuts are the finest nuts for diabetics. Keep daily portions to one ounce or less; one ounce of nuts can provide plenty of essential healthy fats and aid in controlling appetite. Additionally, they provide fiber and magnesium. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in some nuts and seeds, including flaxseeds and walnuts. Due to their high polyunsaturated fat content, walnuts in particular have been demonstrated to help prevent heart disease and also lower blood sugar levels. It has been demonstrated that these beneficial fats can halt the onset and progression of diseases including diabetes and heart disease.

Oatmeal
Minerals and vitamins like magnesium, B vitamins, chromium, iron, and folate are abundantly found in whole grains. They also provide a lot of fiber. Whole grains include things like whole oats, quinoa, and barley.
Oats are a remarkably nutrient-dense food that are rich in significant vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Lower levels of “bad” (LDL) and total cholesterol, as well as a sense of fullness and an increase in good gut bacteria, are all advantages of eating oats. Oats’ soluble fiber inhibits the stomach’s digestion of food’s glucose, which may aid with blood sugar regulation.

Quinoa
The nutrient-dense seed quinoa is frequently referred to as an ancient grain. White pasta or white rice can be easily swapped out for this protein-rich whole grain. Quinoa’s increased fiber and protein cause it to digest more slowly, keeping you fuller for longer and preventing blood sugar spikes. Quinoa is also regarded as a complete protein due to its uncommon inclusion of all nine required amino acids for muscle growth in plant-based protein sources. Similar to rice, quinoa cooks quickly and is frequently served as a side dish. It contains magnesium, iron, fiber, and B vitamins and is gluten-free. If you haven’t tried it yet, you can have quinoa for breakfast in place of your healthy oats or even mix it with your favorite vegetables to eat cold or hot.

Salmon
In addition to being strong in protein, salmon is also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which helps protect your heart by reducing blood pressure and raising cholesterol levels. These beneficial properties can also be obtained from other fatty fish that contain omega-3 fatty acids, including tuna, mackerel, and sardines. This is crucial for diabetics because they are at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease.

Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are a great source of fiber, vitamin A, and vitamin C. The anti-inflammatory properties of anthocyanin (a group of antioxidants found in red, purple, and blue fruits and vegetables) and other color-related pigments make them important for human health. Replace white potatoes in your favorite dishes with sweet potatoes for a lower glycemic alternative.

Check out more simple food swaps to help lower blood sugar levels suggested by WebMD. It’s more beneficial to concentrate on the things you can and should eat rather than the foods to avoid when you have diabetes. These 10 foods are nutrient-dense powerhouses that can assist you in maintaining good blood sugar levels along with Blood Sugar Focus.

Hopefully the list of Top 10 Foods Diabetics Should Be Eating to Help Lower Blood Sugar Levels and adding Blood Sugar Focus to your daily routine has helped guide you in taking further control of your health.
Did you know I wrote a book about apple cider vinegar cleansing? Read 7-Day Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanse to learn all about how to safely cleanse with apple cider vinegar. I include meal plans, recipes, and a cleansing plan – so it’s easy for you to take charge of your health.

What is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar is fermented apple juice. It is available in most grocery stores in the oil and vinegar aisle.

There are two types of apple cider vinegar:

Distilled apple cider vinegar is a clear yellow color that you can easily see through.

Raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar is cloudy. This cloudiness is caused by the “mother” that typically settles at the bottom of the bottle. This mother is created during the fermentation process and is a combination of yeast and bacteria. The mother in your apple cider vinegar bottle is a probiotic, which means it contains bacteria that help heal your gut.

Like other vinegars, you do not need to refrigerate apple cider vinegar and it has a long shelf life. Choose whichever type of apple cider vinegar you prefer – both are equally healthy and beneficial for you.

What are the Top 6 Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

The top 6 health benefits of apple cider vinegar are:

Helps improve digestion. Because apple cider vinegar is acidic, it can help balance your digestive system making it easier for you to lose the bloat and gas. As an extra bonus, apple cider vinegar helps eliminate bad bacteria lingering in your intestines and stomach.

Lowers blood sugar levels. Many people with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes use apple cider vinegar to help regulate blood sugar levels. Recent research shows that drinking apple cider vinegar during a meal of fast-acting carbohydrates, can lower your blood sugar levels. If you have type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, discuss apple cider vinegar with your doctor before you start drinking apple cider vinegar.

Helps you burn fat. Because apple cider vinegar helps you feel full, people who drink or cleanse with apple cider vinegar regularly, become more efficient at burning fat. When you’re satiated and feel full, you’re less likely to overeat. Ultimately, this means you can turn your body into fat-burning mode more easily, firing up your metabolism and making it easier to lose fat and get lean.

Lowers insulin sensitivity. The visceral fat, or fat you can’t see located deep in your abdomen has serious health implications, including contributing to insulin resistance. When you drink apple cider vinegar, you turn on your metabolism, feel full more quickly, and lower your blood sugar levels – these all contribute to lowering your insulin sensitivity and helping you lose visceral fat.

Helps you lose stubborn belly fat. Belly fat is stubborn, but with lifestyle changes and an apple cider vinegar cleanse, you can kickstart your body into burning and losing belly fat. The belly fat I care about is visceral fat – the fat under your skin you can’t see. When you lose this fat, your waistline shrinks, your liver health is improved, and you lower your risks of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Safely and naturally cleanse and get rid of toxic overload. Frequent headaches, brain fog, sugar cravings, bloating, difficulties losing weight, sinus congestion, and irritability are all symptoms of toxic overload. Apple cider vinegar cleansing can help get rid of the toxins in your body that have built up overtime and allow you to hit the reset button on your health.

What are the Symptoms an Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanse Can Help With?

If you experience any of these signs and symptoms, an apple cider vinegar cleanse may help you:

Brain fog

Low mood or irritability

Trouble losing weight, even with a healthy diet and exercise

Sugar cravings

Frequent headaches

Bloating and gas

Stubborn belly fat

Nasal or sinus congestion

Low energy levels

Digestion issues including constipation

Reactions to chemicals

Dry skin or acne skin breakouts

These are all symptoms of toxic overload, an unfortunate by-product of our modern lifestyle.

In fact, toxic overload is so common, it’s one of the reasons I wrote my 7-Day Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanse book. Here’s a sample of what I wrote about my cleanse and how it can help you:

How Do I Make JJ’s Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Water?

To make my apple cider vinegar detox water do this:

Add 2 tablespoons of unfiltered and unprocessed apple cider vinegar, a dash of lemon, and a pinch of cayenne pepper to 6-8 ounces of water.

If you prefer a sweet detox water, add a small amount of stevia.

To drink, add a small amount of this healthful water to a large glass of water.

Apple cider vinegar detox water helps remove toxins, aids in digestion, supports liver health, and improves circulation.

Drinking diluted apple cider vinegar water before every meal helps stimulate your metabolism, so you can burn fat faster and reduce the amount of time fat stays in your digestive tract.

Learn the facts on Type 2 Diabetes and how to reverse Type 2 Diabetes

November is American Diabetes Month. The importance of this month rings home for me when I read the statistics on the number of Americans living with type 2 and type 1 diabetes.

According to the CDC, over 34 million Americans have diabetes – this is about 1 in 10 people! And of these 34 million, 90 – 95% of people have type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes used to be a disease that affected older adults, but now because of our modern-day lifestyles, children, teens, and young adults are developing this very serious disease.

In light of these facts, it only makes sense to do all I can to share with you what I know about your health, your liver, blood sugar, and type 2 diabetes.

Here is what the American Diabetes Association says about the importance of American Diabetes Month:

Every year, our community comes together to ring the alarm on the diabetes epidemic. For the millions of us who are at risk for it, it’s a time to get educated, find resources and make sure all those around us are aware of their risk, too. And for the millions of us living with diabetes, it’s a chance to tell our stories and awaken the world.

What is Type 2 Diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is a disease in which your body cannot make enough insulin (a hormone that helps control the amount of glucose or sugar in your blood) or does not properly use the insulin it makes. Type 2 diabetes is caused by several different risk factors and affects 90% of diabetes cases in Canada.

I like this definition of type 2 diabetes from Diabetes Canada because it explains in simple language how important it is to keep your body working properly and the implications to your health when your body cannot make or manage insulin.

To expand on this definition and drill home the nature of this disease, let’s talk about your pancreas and sugar. With type 2 diabetes, your pancreas does not make enough insulin or can’t use the insulin it has. This is known as insulin resistance and makes it difficult for your body to metabolize and use blood sugar for energy.

This breakdown ultimately results in high blood sugar and triggers trickle-down health impacts, including type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, erratic energy levels, weight gain, and hyperglycemia.

Because it’s American Diabetes Month, I want to highlight the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This is information you need to know if you or someone you love has been diagnosed with diabetes or prediabetes.

Differences between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes

This is an autoimmune disease. Your body attacks your pancreas, and it cannot make the insulin you need.

There is no known cause for type 1 diabetes.

People with type 1 diabetes must monitor their blood sugar and take insulin to keep their blood sugar in the healthy range.

There is no known cure for type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes

Your body cannot make enough insulin or use the insulin it does make properly.

It is not 100% clear what causes insulin resistance and why the pancreas is unable to manage or make insulin properly. But researchers believe lifestyle factors such as weight, lack of exercise, and diet are contributing factors to type 2 diabetes.

Many people overlook the symptoms of type 2 diabetes because they accumulate slowly.

People with type 2 diabetes can manage their disease by making lifestyle changes and taking medication.

While there is no cure for type 2 diabetes, you can reverse type 2 diabetes and put it into remission.

What Causes Type 2 Diabetes?

This scientific explanation of how the liver and pancreas work together, helps explain what causes type 2 diabetes:

When fat cannot be safely stored under the skin, it is then stored inside the liver and overspills to the rest of the body, including the pancreas. This ‘clogs up’ the pancreas, switching off the genes that direct how insulin should effectively be produced, and this causes type 2 diabetes.

The Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial (DiRECT) was a 2-year long trial that measured the impacts of weight loss and lifestyle changes on type 2 diabetes reversal. The results of this study showed that 9 out of 10 people who lost 15 kilograms or more, reversed their type 2 diabetes.

I highlight this study because the hypothesis it tested is linked to a theory about what causes type 2 diabetes. MedicalNewsToday explains the study in plain language that makes it easy to understand the connection between liver health, fat in the liver, high blood sugar, and type 2 diabetes:

The theory proposed that type 2 diabetes results from the accumulation of fat in the liver, which induces insulin resistance and increases blood sugar production.

These effects, in turn increase plasma insulin levels, precipitating “a self-reinforcing cycle” in which insulin stimulates fat production.

These increased levels of liver fat cause the lipids to overspill into several tissues, including the pancreas.

Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes

It is very easy to miss the signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Please make sure you’re aware of these type 2 diabetes symptoms:

Extremely thirsty

Frequent peeing (especially at night)

No energy or extreme fatigue

Blurry vision

Recurring or frequent infections

Slow healing cuts and bruises

Numbness, pain, or tingling in your hands and feet

Increased hunger

Please do not ignore these symptoms. If you experience any of these symptoms of type 2 diabetes (and type 1 diabetes) please contact your healthcare practitioner. These symptoms are signals from your body that it needs help and support.

Learn more about the symptoms of type 2 diabetes from Diabetes UK. Note: these symptoms impact both adults and children.

How to Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

If you’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, I want you to know you can take steps to improve your health.

Instead of being stressed about this diagnosis – use this information as the motivation you need to make healthy changes to your lifestyle.

To potentially reverse type 2 diabetes and improve your overall health, try to put these healthy living tips into practice:

Change your diet. Yes, you are what you eat, and research tells us the foods we consume really do matter. Try to incorporate these healthy diet tips into your day-to-day:

Cut down on the amount of fast-acting carbohydrates you eat. Fast-acting carbohydrates are foods that spike blood sugar. Foods like white bread, soda, candy, baked goods, and white rice and pasta are examples of fast-acting carbohydrates. Instead, switch to slow-acting carbohydrates including whole wheat bread, brown rice, large flake oats, sweet potatoes, bananas, lentils, couscous, and butternut squash. These foods give you a steady energy release through-out the day and help promote stable blood sugar levels.

Get your fiber. Fiber is essential to good digestion, slowing blood sugar absorption, and easy pooping. Most people do not get enough fiber in their diets because they’re not eating enough vegetables, fruits, and slow-acting carbohydrates. As an extra bonus, a high-fiber diet makes you feel full, preventing you from overeating. Try to add high fiber foods like apples, pears, green leafy vegetables, lentils, beans, broccoli, and berries to your diet.

Eat your fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. Fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and slow-acting carbohydrates are keys to a balanced diet. Look for unprocessed foods and try to eat more liver superfoods – choose the apple instead of the apple juice or try to add more homemade soups and stews to your meal plan

Move your body. Here is what the American Diabetes Association says about exercise and type 2 diabetes or prediabetes:

Along with your diet and medications, regular physical activity is an important part of managing diabetes or dealing with prediabetes. Because when you’re active, your cells become more sensitive to insulin, so it works more effectively. And you just feel better. And look better.

I know it’s not easy to start exercising. My number one tip for getting more exercise is to choose something fun and do it with friends. For example, meet up with your friends for an evening walk around the neighborhood, join a yoga class, get together for a weekend spin class, or hit the gym to lift weights.

Manage your stress levels. Elevated stress levels can contribute to high blood pressure levels and increase your risk of developing heart disease if you have type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. To help lower your stress levels, try to take breaks from work during the day and do not agree to every invitation or request. You can say “

Stop smoking. If you smoke – stop. It’s this simple. There is nothing good about smoking. If you have type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, the effects of smoking can be much worse. For diabetics and prediabetics, smoking puts you at increased risk of nerve damage, permanent vision problems, kidney disease, and heart conditions.

Take a supplement proven to promote healthy blood sugar levels. With type 2 diabetes and prediabetes, your blood sugar levels are too high. Blood Sugar Focus helps to naturally reduce glucose absorption and production. This proprietary blend of herbs and minerals supports healthy blood sugar levels, helping you to lose weight, maintain consistent energy levels, and provides specific support for prediabetes and diabetes.

Please consult your healthcare practitioner before making changes to your diet, exercise routine, and lifestyle habits if you have type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. Any changes you make may interact with your medication.
