Without detoxification, millions of people fail to lose weight permanently. There are many factors that contribute to weight gain, but one factor that’s often overlooked by traditional diet programs is toxic overload. The majority of toxins you’re exposed to are stored in your fat cells. Toxins stored in fat cells are difficult to get rid of by dieting only, you have to incorporate detoxing to maximize permanent weight loss. Often, people relate detoxing with extreme diet choices. This is a fallacy–our bodies are made to flush out toxins and waste on their own. Cleansing can be a simple task. In this blog series, we will explore 3 of the more simple detox methods I introduce in the Green Smoothies for Life book and teach in my private Slay at Any Age VIP group.

Part one of three is all about: Alkaline Water

Alkaline water has a higher pH level (8 or 9) than regular drinking water (6 or 7). The pH level measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 0 to 14. For example, something with a pH of 1 would be very acidic, and something with a pH of 13 or 14 would be very alkaline–straightforward, right? Many experts say disease cannot exist when the body is in an alkaline state. When the body is in an acidic state, the body is not healthy. An acidic body puts you at a greater risk for diseases, chronic illnesses, and weight gain. Alkaline water is simply hydrogen-rich or ion water which detoxifies the body and leaves your skin looking smoother, more elastic, and more youthful.

Drink more water that has higher levels of alkaline to help neutralize the acid in your body.

Here are a few tips to boost the ph levels in your water, making it less acidic and rich in alkaline:

  • Add a squeeze of lemon or lime to a glass of distilled water. It’s important to use distilled water because tap or bottled water may have additives or artificial ingredients.
  • Purchase pH drops and add them to your water. You can buy alkaline water in health food stores or get a portable alkaline water bottle (e.g., IonPod) that converts regular water to alkaline water.
  • A more expensive option is to buy a machine that converts the water from your faucet to alkaline water. An example would be a Kangen machine, which costs close to $ 5,000.

Until next time…
