Get the facts on how to have a healthy liver and flat belly

It’s no secret that a healthy liver is vital to your ability to burn fat. In fact, the liver is your fat burning organ. It is responsible for breaking down toxins in your body, metabolizing fat and carbs, and building protein so you can put on lean muscle.

Together, these three critical liver functions are essential to your ability to burn fat and keep weight off. One area where so many people struggle with losing weight is around their belly. Belly fat can be difficult to lose and the main reason so many people struggle to lose belly fat comes down to one thing – an unhealthy liver.

Because your liver is responsible for doing so much essential work in your body, it’s very easy for it to be overwhelmed and unhealthy. This makes it impossible for your liver to metabolize fat and carbs, build protein, eliminate toxins, and remove harmful chemicals from your body.

When your liver stops working properly, there is a trickle-down impact throughout your body – your metabolism slows down, you lack energy, your skin loses its shine, you feel lethargic, and you struggle to lose belly fat.

The struggle to lose belly fat can serve as an indicator for you to consider a liver cleanse. Imagine how great you’ll feel when your liver is free from toxic overload and is able to work for you instead of against you.

Understanding Belly Fat and Why It Is So Unhealthy

There are two types of belly fat that you need to understand:

  1. Subcutaneous Fat: this is the fat that is visible just below your skin.
  2. Visceral Fat: this is the hidden fat that is located deep inside your abdomen, wrapping around your vital organs, including your liver.

While most people are concerned about the fat they can see on their belly, I’m most concerned about visceral fat. This visceral fat triggers an inflammatory response that increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and colorectal and breast cancers.

Not only does visceral fat accumulation put you at great risk for health complications, it also makes it very difficult for you to lose belly fat so you can maintain a healthy weight and slim and sexy waistline.

Apart from having a CT scan, one of the easiest ways to determine if you’re dealing with a buildup of visceral fat is to get out your tape measure. Stand up straight and wrap the tape measure around your waist at your belly button level. To be healthy, women should have a waist measurement of less than 35 inches and men should have a waist size of less than 40 inches.

Having a wider waistline, more belly fat, and an “apple shaped” body is a strong indicator of high levels of visceral fat. In a recent WebMD.com article, Kristen Hairston, MD, assistant professor of endocrinology and metabolism at Wake Forest School of Medicine, said, “What we’re really pointing to with the apple versus pear is that, if you have more abdominal fat, it’s probably an indicator that you have more visceral fat.”

It’s important to understand that how you look is not always an indicator of the amount of visceral fat you have around your liver and other organs. On the outside you might have a very low body fat level, but inside you have a buildup of visceral fat around your organs. And this is why it’s critical that you think about your whole-body health and the role your liver plays in helping you lose weight, keep fat off, and maintaining a flat belly.

The Connection Between Belly Fat and a Healthy Liver

Having a healthy liver is critical in helping you lose weight, lowering your amount of belly fat and visceral fat, and in maintaining a flat belly. However, so many people inadvertently overload their liver and bodies with toxins.

This is a side effect of our on-the-go lifestyle. We’re busy rushing to work, picking up the kids from school, getting to activities, with barely enough time to eat properly, exercise daily, and get adequate sleep. These negative lifestyle factors have a detrimental impact on liver health, resulting in your body storing excess toxins in fat cells, causing weight gain and belly fat.

The more toxins we take in everyday through processed food, pollutants, household cleaners, pesticides, food additives, and prescription medicines – the more fat cells are created in the body. These fat cells accumulate when the liver is overwhelmed and not able to break down and metabolize fat and carbs.

However, with a healthy liver your body is able to more easily function at its optimal capacity, causing you to look and feel good. When you’re healthy you’re more likely to:

  • Easily maintain a healthy weight.
  • Not get bloated or deal with hard-to-lose belly fat.
  • Have higher and consistent energy levels.
  • Have skin and hair with a healthy shine.
  • Be free of digestion troubles.
  • Crave sugars less frequently.
  • Not struggle with headaches, nausea, or irritability.

This is how you should look and feel on a daily basis. A liver cleanse can help you detox and reawaken your metabolism, making it easier for you to lose belly fat, maintain a healthy weight and improve your overall health and wellness.

Why Belly Fat Indicates You Need a Liver Cleanse

When you have an accumulation of visceral fat and belly fat, your liver is not able to function properly. It is literally wrapped in fat, making it impossible to prevent toxic and chemical overload.

Please do not ignore these signs and symptoms that indicate you need a liver cleanse:

  • Low energy and feelings of lethargy.
  • Weight gain and/or struggling to lose weight – even with a healthy diet and exercise.
  • High levels of belly fat, indicating that you likely have an accumulation of visceral fat.
  • Dry, itchy skin and hair.
  • Stiff joints and aching muscles.
  • Sleeplessness, even when you feel exhausted.
  • Digestive problems, bloating, nausea, and constipation.
  • Dark circles under your eyes.

The good news is, you can safely and naturally cleanse your liver, making it possible for you to get back to feeling and looking your best.

How to Cleanse Your Liver and Loose Belly Fat

To cleanse your liver and lose belly fat, follow these healthy liver diet, exercise, and lifestyle tips:

  1. Stop eating processed foods. This helps you reduce the amount of toxins and food additives your liver needs to process.
  2. Drink one gallon of lukewarm water throughout the day. Our bodies are 60% water and you need to regularly replenish your water levels to prevent dehydration and to aid in flushing out toxins.
  3. If you smoke – stop smoking. Nothing good comes from smoking.
  4. Reduce or stop the amount of alcohol you drink. Excessive alcohol consumption contributes to a range of liver and health problems, making it impossible for your liver to function correctly.
  5. Aim to eat the rainbow. At each meal make sure you have brightly colored fruits and vegetables on your plate and in your bowl. Get creative – add spinach to your smoothies, pack stews, casseroles, and stir fries with lots of crunchy vegetables, replace rice with riced cauliflower, and look for ways to snack on fresh fruit.
  6. Add regular, consistent exercise to your daily routine. It helps to do some strength work such as body weight exercises or yoga. Try adding a daily walk into your evening routine to boost your metabolism and to help improve your digestion.
  7. Avoid quick-fix liver cleanse programs that require you to drink skinny fad teas, fast with water, or take pills that you don’t know anything about. A natural liver cleanse supplement is your best choice and can help heal your liver and make it easier for you to get rid of unwanted belly fat.
